I started writing on Medium at my most challenging time. Medium was part of my therapies, a space to be creative and express it. I wrote this poem in those times. I am forever grateful to Elle How for resonating with me who I have never met. It was a time when I found solace and peace by being away from people who I had loved all my life. You will know what I mean when you would get there.

When there is emotion or charge in you, creating something, anything, can help release that energy. Write it out, say it out, draw it, paint it, and remove it. Contained negative energy can do you harm.

You are showing yourself empathy for yourself. There are various words like self-love, self-compassion, and self-care…but I would use self-empathy, treating yourself like someone else in a way, and trying to understand yourself.

The truth is, sometimes, you may not even understand why you have done something as if you are someone else!

We sometimes express, “I lost myself.” You might have lost yourself! How could that be? Aren’t you ‘you’?

We also sometimes say, “I don’t know what I was thinking at the time!”.

As time progresses, you change. You become a different person, in a way.

So having self-empathy can create the space, and creating something out of it can help you understand who you are. When your creation gets resonated or acknowledged in some way by sharing, you realize that you matter and are valued.

Here are some ideas:

  1. Write or draw in a journal. You are taking time to look inward and mirroring yourself.
  2. Talk to a trustworthy friend. Spoken words are creations, too. Create tears or laugh while you are at it!
  3. Play an instrument or sing. Go to karaoke.
  4. Make something. Favorite dish? Play with clay?
  5. Dance away to a tune. If you are not a dancer, learn to dance?
  6. Play sports or exercise. I love yoga! Walk your dog if you don’t like sports or exercise!
  7. And if you don’t feel like doing any of those, be still and feel the moment. You are interacting with your presence, and that itself is a creation in a way.

I hope you are enjoying my series. I know some people may think I have quit writing for this challenge as I have called it a 30 days challenge. However, I am going at my pace as I unfold and choose what to share carefully. And maybe starting from the beginning is not your thing, so you can start from here or the first healing week series in this article. The second week is about the tools you can use, and Day 8 is also here.

You can subscribe to my writings here at Medium or through Substack. Or maybe you can write too on this platform! Use this referral link to be a member and reader/writer on Medium! Thanks for reading!
